Unfortunately, due to the unavailability of our normal float/trailer and having to decorate a new one from scratch within the week we've decided to cancel our participation in the St. Patrick's Day parade this year.
Hi everyone, As many of you recall, traditionally our November Pack meeting is when we have our annual raingutter regatta. (For those that don't know what that is, go ahead and google it). Unfortunately, due to the church's mask mandate, along with it simply being a bad idea to have scouts that close together and blowing in each other's faces... it will not be held this year.
But... in its place, we have created something new and different, and hopefully as much (or more) fun! The pack leadership has been working to try and anticipate any nuances which may arise, and I'm sure we didn't think of everything so please be prepared (and prepare your scouts) that the details of the race may be subject to change as we learn. This year, the goal of the newly created "Pack 103 Grand Prix" ("No more rhymes now, I mean it." - +5 points to whoever knows this reference) :) is simply to have fun, and if it's a success, maybe we'll repeat the event in the future, if it's a bust, we tried.
Now, I'm sure you are all wondering: Exactly what is the Pack 103 Grand Prix? Well, I'm glad you asked. Attached to this email is the answer. The attachment also outlines sample directions to create your scouts racecar (did you know racecar spelled backward is still racecar?) Maybe I haven't had enough coffee yet. Anyway... back on track (see what I did there?)... it also includes the rules for what materials can be used (mainly for safety reasons), some sample photos, and a rough explanation of how the race will be conducted by our illustrious Derby Masters.
As this is new to all of us, please reach out to me with any questions, comments or concerns we may have overlooked; and I'll get you answers ASAP.
In the meantime, the race will be held at our November Pack Meeting, at St. James UMC. 6:30 pm on November 22nd (and will likely end closer to 8). Please bring your scouts and their racecars that night and prepare for fun. It's possible we may hold the race outside in the parking lot, but this detail has not yet been finalized, be prepared to either be in or outside.
