Postponed November Pack Meeting

Posted on Nov 19 2021 - 12:21pm
Greetings everyone,
I wanted to reach out and begin with an apology that we are going to postpone our November Pack meeting / Grand Prix race event.   This week there has been a massive spike in positive cases in the Kingston City Schools and as a result, hundreds of students are in quarantine including some of the families in our pack.

November Pack Meeting - Introducing the Pack 103 Grand Prix!

Posted on Nov 2 2021 - 11:53am

Hi everyone,    As many of you recall, traditionally our November Pack meeting is when we have our annual raingutter regatta.   (For those that don't know what that is, go ahead and google it).   Unfortunately, due to the church's mask mandate, along with it simply being a bad idea to have scouts that close together and blowing in each other's faces... it will not be held this year.

But... in its place, we have created something new and different, and hopefully as much (or more) fun!  The pack leadership has been working to try and anticipate any nuances which may arise, and I'm sure we didn't think of everything so please be prepared (and prepare your scouts) that the details of the race may be subject to change as we learn.  This year, the goal of the newly created "Pack 103 Grand Prix" ("No more rhymes now, I mean it." - +5 points to whoever knows this reference)  :)    is simply to have fun, and if it's a success, maybe we'll repeat the event in the future, if it's a bust, we tried.

Now, I'm sure you are all wondering:  Exactly what is the Pack 103 Grand Prix?   Well, I'm glad you asked.   Attached to this email is the answer.   The attachment also outlines sample directions to create your scouts racecar (did you know racecar spelled backward is still racecar?)  Maybe I haven't had enough coffee yet.   Anyway... back on track (see what I did there?)... it also includes the rules for what materials can be used (mainly for safety reasons), some sample photos, and a rough explanation of how the race will be conducted by our illustrious Derby Masters.

As this is new to all of us, please reach out to me with any questions, comments or concerns we may have overlooked; and I'll get you answers ASAP.

In the meantime, the race will be held at our November Pack Meeting, at St. James UMC. 6:30 pm on November 22nd (and will likely end closer to 8).   Please bring your scouts and their racecars that night and prepare for fun.   It's possible we may hold the race outside in the parking lot, but this detail has not yet been finalized, be prepared to either be in or outside.

Thanks!

Halloween Meeting

Posted on Oct 15 2021 - 11:11pm

Hi everyone,
Just a quick reminder, this Sunday is our Halloween Pack Meeting at Robert Post Park.  We'll begin at noon, and planning to end by 2.   Families are asked to prepare a Trunk-or-Treat station, if possible, and the weather is looking good!  Scouts are encouraged to wear scout-appropriate Halloween attire, otherwise, a Class A uniform would be appropriate.

Summer Events

Posted on Jul 21 2021 - 2:00pm

Hi everyone,
I apologize for how late in July this note is coming out, but our plans for the summer activities are finally pulled together.

Starting with next week, we're going to have a short evening hike at Franny Reese state park in Highland.  This will be Wednesday evening at 6:30pm, July 28th.  We'll meet at the parking lot for Johnson-Iorio park just past the parking area for the Walkway.  281 Haviland Rd, Highland, NY 12528
Wear proper footwear and class B uniform shirt.  Be sure to bring water.  The only catch is, due to COVID, our group size is restricted to 25, so we will need you to signup to attend, first-come, first-served:

Den Meeting at Rotary Park

Posted on May 7 2021 - 5:09pm

Wolves and Lions - the weather is looking decent to meet outdoors on Monday.   Let's plan to meet at Rotary Park at 6:30pm for a little community service, same place as last time - the grassy area in front of the parking lot.  Bring gloves to clean up some litter :)   We'll also be going over flag folding and ceremonies, and a few other things.
